A brief guide to injection Moulding and links to some more in-depth information
What is Plastic Injection Moulding
Plastic injection moulding is a manufacturing process for mass producing plastic components. Plastic, usualy in the form of granules, is melted and injected at a very high pressure into a mould (mold) tool. The tool cools the plastic into its new form in a few seconds, the tool then opens and ejects the plastic component. This cycle can take less than 10 seconds alowing up to 1000s of plastic mouldings to be produced in a single day. Although toolmaking is now far more advanced than it once was, cheaper tools can be produced in a short time so smaller batches are now just as cost effective.
